Scout is a one-tap field recorder for your bike computer. Mark a hazard, a closure, a surface change or a water stop as you pass it — no stopping, no phone, no typing. Every tag is written straight into your ride file, in an open, documented format.

You are the only person who knows the road is shut, that the gravel starts here, or that the tap in the square works. That knowledge normally evaporates by the time you get home. Scout catches it at the moment you ride past: one tap on the screen, and it is recorded with your position and the time.
Scout stands alone. The app and its file format work with or without the Cycling Commons — your tags are yours, in your own ride file, readable by anything that can read it.
A tag takes one press. Pick a type from the submenu if you want to be specific, or leave it and sort it out later.
Every tag is written into the activity your computer was already recording, in an open format — nothing separate to sync or lose.
Back home you can correct a mis-tap, move a tag to the right spot on the road, and send it to the Commons, where it goes through the same review as any other contribution.

Your ride file is read in your browser and never uploaded. Only what you send travels: your tags, their stretches and your photos, linked to your account. We keep the data, not your ride.
So we can tell you what happened. It is not shown to anybody, not even to curators.
